Description: Significant Gabby Hartnett single signature baseball c.1938. Toned and partially clear-coated Frick NL ball with apparent game usage signed on a side panel by Gabby Hartnett. Signature rates 7/8 out of 10, originated from a Chicago woman who has worked as a secretary to the chairman of the board of a large company from 1920-1944. As part of her duties she would accommodate visiting stockholders with tickets to sporting events while in town. On Sept. 28,1938 the Cubs played the Pirates for the pennant and she had arranged for a client to go to the game. This day would become known as the game with the “homer in the gloamin” as Hartnett hit a dramatic 9th inning home run in virtual darkness to win the game. In appreciation of the tickets to such an exciting game the client obtained and presented this auto. baseball to her. Accompanied by a detailed letter of provenance from the family: Ball: VG, Signature: EX-EX/MT
