Description: Rare A.G. Spalding auto. letter c.1884. One page typed letter with typical mailing fold lines written on decorative A.G. Spalding & Bros. stationary featuring equipment illustrations at top. Written to Harry Wright regarding a player by the name of Gross (Most likely Emil Gross). Spalding states that he’d like Gross to play for Chicago but would recommend that he play with Philadelphia if that would keep Gross from signing with the Union Association. Spalding further notes his contempt for the Unions and asks that Wright keep in touch on the matter. Signed in black ink , “A.G. Spalding”. Signature is dark and bold but has some smudging original to it’s signing, small hand-written correction also in Spalding’s hand in the text. Rare early document signed by one of baseball’s pioneers and sporting goods innovator: EX (With note to smudging)
