Description: Rare 1889 Boston Red Sox large format team photograph. Mounted cabinet photograph of the team in uniform posed on the infield with pleasing grandstand backdrop. Players listing reads as a Who’s Who in 19th century baseball incl. King Kelly, John Clarkson, Hoss Radbourn, Dan Brouthers, and Billy Nash. Image itself retains excellent contrast and clarity with one area of age toning upper center portion, mount is fairly clean but has been cut down at the bottom which is evidenced by a partial script title of “The Boston Base Ball Club” and the photographer’s stamp which we attribute to G.Waldon Smith of Boston. Image size measures 13”x16” with a 2” mount around the edge. Large format professional team cabinet photographs are exceedingly rare, the offered piece was discovered recently in a prominent Boston estate and is being offered for the first time publicly: EX
