Description: Jerry West Los Angeles Lakers home warm-up jacket c.1970s. Mid 1970s Los Angeles Lakers home warm-up jacket features "Tiernan" manufacturer's label in the collar. Purple jacket trimmed in yellow and white features an embroidered Lakers logo on the left breast and the name "West" stitched on the back of the shirt in purple tackle twill on a white backing. Measurable game use is evident throughout though the jacket shows no structural faults and retains superb display quality. Jerry West's combination of a deadly jump shot, tenacious defense, obsessive perfectionism, quiet confidence and an uncompromising will to win made him one of the NBA's greatest guards. West was a winner from the moment he first picked up a basketball. As a schoolboy phenom at East Bank High School, West led his team to a state championship in his senior year, and in the process, became the first West Virginia scholastic player to score more than 900 points in one season. Recruited by 60 colleges, West chose to stay close to home. In 1959, his junior year, averaging 26.9 points a game, West and his Mountaineers made the NCAA Finals and West won the tournament's Most Outstanding Player award. In a superlative senior season, he was a consensus All-America and led West Virginia to its third consecutive conference title. During WestÆs 14-year career with the Los Angeles Lakers, he became synonymous with brilliant basketball. He was the third player in league history to reach 25,000 points (after Chamberlain and Robertson). West led LA to the NBA finals nine times, losing six times to the Celtics, twice to the Knicks and finally winning his lone title in 1972, defeating the Knicks four games to one while averaging 23 points in the playoffs and winning the MVP award.
