Description: 1934 Tour of Japan photograph featuring Babe Ruth and Lefty Gomez from Gomez estate. 6"x4" original photograph shows Babe Ruth, Lefty Gomez and Japanese friends at an indoor swimming pool. True to form, Ruth is playfully posing with a stuffed animal atop his head. A group of curious Japanese associates are watching through a window behind them. Photo is inscribed, "To Mr. V. Gomez, Being surprised that you are a darn good swimmer Nov. 16th, 1934." The signature is a Japanese name that could not be deciphered. Black fountain pen inscription rates 8 out of 10. Embossed photographerÆs stamp in lower right corner reads, ôNiimiyakan Azabu, Tokyoö. Photo was purchased by our consignor along with a group of other items from the Gomez estate in the 1980's: EX
