Description: 1886 New York vs. Boston scorecard. Original scorecard for a game played on April 29, 1886 features printed lineups incl. opposing pitchers Hoss Radbourne and Mickey Welch, as well as Hall of Famers Ward, Ewing, O'Rourke and Connor. Scored in pencil showing New York prevailing by a score of 5-4. Copies of period newspaper articles about the game read in part, "This, the opening championship game of the season, was one of the best played and most exciting games ever witnessed in New York, and was greatly enjoyed by the 12,000 spectators." Articles also include box score and comprehensive editorial on the game itself and the pomp and circumstance of the event as a whole. Scorecard shows general handling wear and minor soiling. Back side is blank but for a period notation "1886" in pencil. Includes letter of provenance from Peggy Steele: GD-VG
