Description: Jim Thorpe "All American" original painting by Gene Francis. Original 18"x30" watercolor on board painting of Jim Thorpe by artist Gene Francis features the legendary multi-sport star in a full body rendering as a football player for the Carlisle Indian Industrial School. In 1904, Thorpe was recruited to attend the highly respected Carlisle Indian Industrial School in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. It was famous for its football team, the Carlisle Indians, which regularly beat the best Ivy League, military, and Big Ten college teams of the East. The unrivaled athletic ability of Thorpe helped continue that tradition. In addition to his dominance on the gridiron, Thorpe's athletic feats in a multitude of arenas helped earn him the title "Athlete of The Century". Gene Francis has signed the painting in the lower right corner and titling in the lower left corner reads "All American". Framed: NM-MT
