Description: 1840 handwritten and franked letter from Cooperstown, N.Y. by Postmaster "S. Doubleday". One-page letter was handwritten by S. Doubleday on March 20th, 1940. Letter was folded, wax sealed, addressed, and franked in S. Doubleday's hand. S. Doubleday was the brother of Abner Doubleday, who was credited by some to have invented the game of baseball in Cooperstown, New York in 1839. S. Doubleday served as Cooperstown's postmaster. Includes LOA from JSA and letter of provenance from Peggy Steele: VG-EX
