Lot Number: 207

Description: Rare Boston/Washington Redskins sweater c.1930s. Notably scarce original maroon wool pullover style jacket worn by a Redskins player retains its original applique Indian head logo on the back and number "12" on the left shoulder area. The zipper top hood remains intact with red and gold striped trim adorning the elastic sleeve cuffs. General condition is very fine considering its age and materials with a few minor moth holes and some typical age/handling wear. The NFL franchise was originally founded by George Preston Marshall as the "Boston Braves" to correspond with their baseball counterparts across town. The team was not successful, and Marshall renamed the franchise the Redskins, first under the banner of Boston, and later Washington. The offered sweater represents one of the earliest period NFL uniform pieces that we have encountered, a category that is seldom offered in any form. Includes LOA from Hunt Auctions: VG-EX
