Description: Rare 1960 Houston Oilers AFL Championship ring with related presentational plaque. Original ring was presented to longtime Houston Post sportswriter, Jack Gallagher, who covered the Oilers during their inaugural 1960 season. Top of the ring features a small inset diamond (slightly chipped on the right side) inset onto a royal blue field. "Houston Oilers" lettering encircles the center area with one side panel featuring the Oilers logo and "AFL Champions". The other side panel depicts the Oilers mascot with remnants of the original blue enamelwork remaining visible along with "J. Gallagher" inscribed nameplate. Interior ring band is marked with an unknown manufacturer's hallmark and "10K" gold. Size 9. The ring is accompanied by a custom made vintage framed display piece measuring 8"x10". Painted glass display features the AFL Champion Oilers name and mascot, along with titling as having been presented to Jack Gallagher for "outstanding service" during the 1960 season. The Oilers captured the championship in their inaugural 1960 season behind the play of quarterback George Blanda and LSU's Heisman Trophy winner Billy Cannon. Highly uncommon early AFL Championship ring offered for the first time publicly. Includes letter of provenance from the family: EX-MT (with note to small diamond chip)
