Description: 1886 "The Champions" cigar box featuring team photograph of St. Louis "Brownie Champs". 8”x4-1/2”x2” wooden cigar box is designed with a photograph of the St. Louis Browns affixed to the interior of the lid. Composite image includes owner Chris Von Der Ahe and Charles Comiskey in the upper left and right, respectively. On the exterior of the box, "The Champions" appears on the top of the lid in large embossed script gold-colored lettering. A paper label on one side includes an illustration of a ship and reads "The Celebrated Champions Cigars." Additional exterior labels (largely intact) include an oval Metropolitan Cigar Factory and United States tax stamp on the back and bottom of the box. To the best of our knowledge, this is the only example of this particular box known in the marketplace. The quality of the Browns photo is exceptional and the overall condition of the box is outstanding for its age and nature. One of the only surviving exemplars: EX
