Description: Pair of ticket stubs for Game 5 of the 1909 World Series at Forbes Field. Scarce stubs from the fifth game of the historic 1909 Series played between Honus Wagner's Pittsburgh Pirates and Ty Cobb's Detroit Tigers. The stubs have multiple creases, areas surface paper loss, and have been covered by clear tape. A copy of a newspaper article from 1949 recalls their provenance, having been kept in the wallet of their original owner decades after his attendance at the game. The stubs are printed “World Series 1909 Forbes Field Game no. 3” indicating the game was the third played at Forbes Field, as opposed to Game 3 of the series which was played at Detroit’s Bennett Park. On this day, Pittsburgh beat Detroit by a score of 8-4 on their way to an eventual World Championship victory in seven games.
