Description: Sadaharu Oh auto. Yomiuri Giants professional model hat c.1960s. Oh ranks as the all-time worldwide home run leader in professional baseball, having hit 868 home runs. He finished his career with the Yomiuri Giants with a lifetime batting average of .301. Upon his retirement as an active player, Oh went on to manage the Giants and later the Fukuoka Hawks. Considered the greatest player in the history of Japanese baseball, he earned the “The Japanese Babe Ruth”. The offered cap was obtained directly from Oh by the consignor who met him at the Los Angeles Dodgers Spring Training camp in Vero Beach, Fl. in March of 1966. Oh and the Giants were conducting an exhibition tour at the time. The consignor, a former sports writer, approached Oh and asked him for an autograph. Oh literally removed this hat from his head and signed the underside of the bill. When the ink did not take well to the fabric, he signed his name again on the interior leather band. Oh and the grateful consignor exchanged bows before parting. This professional model Yomiuri Giants cap has never been previously offered and comes with a detailed letter of provenance from its original recipient. It shows moderate usage wear with a few small moth holes. Oh’s interior signature rates 10 out of 10. Significant game used artifact from one of baseball’s most prolific international heroes. Includes LOAs from Hunt Auctions (hat) and JSA (auto.): EX
