Description: Rare Whitey Ford "Brooklyn vs. World" tour uniform c.1946. Home style white satin shirt with "Brooklyn" team name on front and original #9 on the back. Rawlings tag remains inside the collar along with size/dry clean tags. The shirt exhibits typical general usage remaining in fine original condition with some surface "pulls" to the satin and a few minor holes. The bottom portion of the jersey has some period staining, likely from perspiration, which has been left intact to preserve the originality of the shirt, but could be cleaned if so desired. Matching satin pants also retain their original Rawlings tagging on the interior waistband area with blue satin trim to the belt loopings. Pants also exhibit some period age toning and have a few areas of surface "pulls" to the satin. High quality, professional style uniform was worn by Ford as a member of the Brooklyn traveling team which played numerous teams at various stadiums in 1946. The series itself was sponsored by the Brooklyn Dodgers beginning in 1945 and continued into the 1950s with games usually played at Ebbets Field. These amateur baseball contests produced several Major League players incl. Frank Torre, Billy Loes, Don McMann, and Joe Pignatano. The offered shirt is one of the precious few of these Brooklyn Tour jerseys known to exist, and is one of the last shirts of its type to display the word "Brooklyn" as the Dodgers discontinued using the city name after 1945. Incredible rarity dating to the formative years of Whitey Ford's baseball career at the young age of eighteen. That one of the most celebrated Yankee players in history first wore a Brooklyn jersey is certainly notable. Includes LOA from Hunt Auctions and letter of provenance from Whitey Ford: EX
