Description: Exceptional 1963 Stan Musial St. Louis Cardinals home uniform with related materials. Although Stan Musial did not play in New York during the era of that city's dominance in the 1950s-60s, he was, without question, one of the finest all around players in the Major Leagues. Musial played for 22 years with the St. Louis Cardinals, collecting over 3,600 hits in just over 3,000 games. He played in four World Series and was regarded as one of the best pure hitters in baseball history with many of his batting records standing today. The offered uniform was originally acquired by Horace McMahon on the final day of the 1963 season. Horace McMahon was a professional boxer who appeared in 23 fights and later continued a long stage and screen career spanning from 1933-1969. Through his extensive travels, McMahon became acquainted with numerous celebrities and notable individuals such as John F. Kennedy, John Wayne, Frank Sinatra, Charlie Conerly, and Stan Musial. In fact, Stan Musial was the Godfather of McMahon's son, Tom, to whom the jersey was given in 1963. The jersey itself retains its original "Cardinals" embroidered team name across the front with "6" below. Back of the shirt has "MUSIAL" applied felt lettering with original "6" below. Rawlings mfg. tag is affixed to the tail front along with "Musial 63" chain stitched in red. Interior tail front has dry clean tagging and "Set 1 1963" flag tag. Matching pants also retain their original Rawlings mfg. tagging along with dry clean tag and "Set 1 1963" flag tag. "Musial 63 35 24ins." is chain stitched onto a strip tag inside the waistband. Both jersey and pants remains in impeccable original condition exhibiting light to moderate use with no mentionable defects. The uniform is accompanied by a vintage 8"x10" black and white photo picturing Musial posed with Horace McMahon and his son Tom which has been signed, "To Tom Best Wishes, Hope you become a ball player Stan Musial" in black fountain pen. The lot also includes an off white Giles NL ball signed on a side panel, "To Tom. Best Wishes from your pal Stan Musial" which was signed in the period. In a fitting tribute to Musial, the St. Louis Cardinals retired his uniform #6 during his final season of play on Sept. 29, 1963. Truly a Hall of Fame caliber uniform with impeccable primary source provenance, high condition grade, dating to Musial's final Major League season, and presented on the date of his final game played. Includes LOA from Hunt Auctions (jersey), LOA from JSA (autographs), and letter of provenance from Tom McMahon: EX-MT
