Lot Number: 328

Description: Casey Stengel New York Mets jacket and professional model hat c.1962. Original blue wool jacket worn by Mets manager Casey Stengel retains its original "NY" embroidered breast patch with NY Mets "skyline" logo patch affixed to the left sleeve. The interior of the jacket retains its KM Pro mfg. label along with size 42 tag. Large team executed patch is also affixed to the lining with "37" in blue Swiss embroidered stitch indicative of Stengel's uniform number. The jacket exhibits heavy use including some tattering to the end of one sleeve and a corner tear at one pocket: VG-EX. The lot also includes Stengel's New York Mets professional model hat c.1962-65. Royal blue hat retains its orange "NY" logo on the front with Tim McAuliffe tagging inside the leather headband. KM Pro stamping is also visible on the leather band. "Stengel" is written in period marker underneath the top of the hat and the underside of the bill is signed, "Good Luck Casey Stengel" in blue ink. Signature is visible but has faded from age rating 3 out of 10. The hat shows tremendous use including buckling to the leather interior band from perspiration: VG-EX. Stengel capped off his Hall of Fame managerial career with the New York Mets during the early 1960s, and while the first few years were difficult, he helped to shape the team for its successes in the late 1960s. The jacket was originally obtained by Hall of Fame sportswriter Jack Lang and includes a letter of provenance from Lang. The lot also includes LOA from Hunt Auctions (jacket/hat), LOA from Grey Flannel (jacket), and JSA (autograph on hat).
