Description: Thurman Munson Kent State University figural baseball trophy. 11" tall wooden trophy with a figural brass batsman on the top has a brass placard on the wooden base inscribed, "19-K.S.U.-67 Leading Hitter Thurman Munson". As a three letter athlete in high school, Munson was a highly touted young player. Although several of major colleges recruited Munson through hundreds of calls and letters, he elected to go to Kent State University near his hometown on a scholarship. Amazingly, he was equally recruited for his football abilities. Munson excelled during his time at Kent State, winning numerous baseball accolades. He was subsequently drafted as the Yankees number one pick in 1969 after only 99 games in the Minor Leagues. Includes letter of provenance from Diana Munson: EX-MT
