Description: 1967 Thurman Munson Cape Cod League Batting Championship trophy. Significant figural trophy presented to Munson as the batting champion of the prestigious Cape Cod League. 16" tall trophy with a silverplated loving cup style body and a figural batsman at the top. Wooden base has an inset silver placard inscribed with the Schaefer Beer Co. logo and "1967 Batting Champion Cape Cod League". Condition remains outstanding with minimal visible wear. Established in 1885, the Cape Cod League has featured many of the best players in the country, including Carlton Fisk and Thurman Munson. Munson participated in the league during the summer of 1967 leading the Chatham A's to their first ever league title. Batting an incredible .420 for the season, Munson's performance was outstanding. In fact, the trophy for the best batsman in the league has since been renamed the "Thurman Munson Award". Includes letter of provenance from Diana Munson: NM
