Description: Exceptional Christy Mathewson photograph by N.W. Penfield c.1906. One of the more iconic baseball images of the early 1900s era depicting a young Christy Mathewson preparing to throw his trademark "fadeaway" pitch. Matte finish sepia tone photo measures 6"x10" retaining excellent clarity and contrast. The edges of the photo have some light chipping most notably to the top right corner area which do not affect the overall visual appearance of the photo. The reverse of the photo has a typewritten team/player identification along with a subsequent printing date of 1912. One of only a handful of surviving original exemplars of this classic image: EX (With note to edge chipping)
