Lot Number: 472

Description: Incredibly rare 1937 San Diego Padres team auto. baseball with Ted Williams. By the young age of 17, Ted Williams had become a phenom within the San Diego baseball community. Against offers from several Major League teams, including the New York Yankees, Williams signed with the San Diego Padres of the Pacific Coast League in 1936. During the 1937 season, Ted Williams led the Padres to their first PCL Championship with a .291 batting average and (23) home runs. Offered is a lightly toned, and likely game used, PCL baseball with (15) signatures from the 1937 Padres. Together with NY Yankee Cedric Durst, Ted Williams signed the ball on a side panel rating 7/8 out of 10. "San Diego Padres Champions 1937" is written in period ink on the sweet spot. Given the obvious limited quantity of team signed baseballs from this era, the offered example is certainly one of only a scant few surviving exemplars. Includes LOA from James Spence Authentication: Ball: VG-EX, Williams signature: EX/MT-NM
