Lot Number: 460

Description: Fine 1955 Warren Spahn Milwaukee Braves home jersey with matching pants. During a career that spanned over twenty years, all of which were played in the National League, Warren Spahn was a picture of consistency. Spahn compiled the most wins in Major League history by a left handed pitcher with 363 and made 14 All-Star Game appearances. Amazingly, Spahn's career was delayed for three years when he joined the Army in 1943. He eventually earned a Bronze Star, a Purple Heart and a battlefield commission in World War II. The offered jersey is one of the finest Warren Spahn shirts to have been sold at auction. Beautiful light cream color flannel shirt retains its original team name on front with embroidered tomahawk logo and #21 beneath. The reverse of the jersey also retains its original #21. The tail front has a Wilson tag with size 42, a strip tag with "Spahn" chain stitched in red, and its original 'Dry Clean' tag. Colorful Braves' Indian head logo remains affixed to the left sleeve with a minute hole just below the patch mentioned for accuracy only. Overall condition is stunning with perfectly aged, yet vibrant color. Includes a pair of matching 1955 Braves pants with Wilson tag, "55" year tag, and "27" player number tag which denotes its use by either Catfish Metkovich or Danny O'Connell. The uniform was originally obtained by a Minor League player who has retained possession of the shirt until this first offering to the public. Exceptional Hall of Famer game worn flannel in virtually unimprovable original condition. Includes LOA from MEARS Authentication (Graded A9.5), LOA from Hunt Auctions, Inc., and letter of provenance from the original recipient: EX/MT-NM
