Lot Number: 336

Description: Babe Ruth et al. autographed baseball attributed to his 16th home run of the 1927 season. Lt. clear coated and toned Barnard AL baseball signed by the following HOF'ers with siganatures rating between 1-10 in parenthesis: Babe Ruth (7/8), Ty Cobb (6/7), Eddie Collins (4), Tris Speaker (5/6), and Lou Gehrig. The Gehrig signature appears to be either enhanced or secretarial signed. The side panel containing Ruth's signature also has a period notation underneath the autograph, "16th Home Run Ball" written in period fountain pen. The ball itself exhibits evident game use including two fairly large areas of potential impact from a bat. This historic baseball was originally obtained from a Philadelphia area pharmacist who regularly attended Philadelphia Athletics baseball games, including those played between the A's and Yankees at Shibe Park on May 31, 1927. Ruth connected for two home runs that day during a doubleheader en route to his record setting 60 home run season in 1927. The pharmacist owned Label Drugs at 15th and Arch in Philadelphia, and had given the ball to the grandfather of the current consignor. Twelve years old at the time, he had become acquainted with the pharmacist while accompanying his own father, who owned Ray's Ice Delivery, on daily deliveries to Label Drugs. Very fine Babe Ruth autographed home run ball with impeccable provenance being offered for the first time publicly. Includes LOA from James Spence Authentication and letter of provenance from the family of the original recipient: Ball: VG-EX, Signatures: Range VG-EX/MT
