Description: Joe Wood presentational pocket watch c.1912. 14K gold pocket watch by Dubois W.C. Co. as presented to Smoky Joe Wood in honor of his phenomenal performance in the 1912 World Series. The back of the casing is engraved with Wood's initials "JW". The interior back plate is beautifully inscribed, "Presented to Joe Wood by his friend A.E. Smith In appreciation of his Splendid Pitching which brought the World's Championship to Boston 1912". Smith was a very prominent businessman in the Boston area. The facing of the watch dial has some age fissures to the surface and a small area of chipping to the bottom right corner. Exterior gold casing has some general light age/usage wear including a small indentation to one side. Smoky Joe Wood's performance in the 1912 World Series remains today one of the most revered pitching displays in Major League history. Wood followed up his 1912 regular season record of 34-5 with three victories in the World Series leading Boston to the title.
