Description: 1887 Thomas Burns presentational locket from the Chicago White Stockings. Striking gold medallion locket as presented to third baseman Thomas Burns from the Chicago White Stockings. The front of the locket features an inset coin shaped field with embossed gold player figural and a single pearl. "Chicago Base Ball Club 1887" is inlaid around the perimeter of the medallion. The reverse is inscribed, "Presented to Our Popular 3rd Base Man Thos. E. Burns By His Chicago Friends, Chicago Oct. 28th, 87". The hinged front opens to reveal a hollow locket area which most likely once held a photograph. 1 3/4" tall. Ornate 19th century professional baseball award piece of notable rarity: EX-MT
