Description: Important 1873 Boston Red Stockings imperial cabinet photograph. Breathtaking original mounted albumen image of the National Association champion Red Stockings posed in a formal studio setting. Players are pictured in full Boston uniform incl. Harry Wright, Ross Barnes, Albert Spalding, George Wright, Jim O'Rourke, Deacon White, Charlie Sweasy, Dave Birdsall, Jack Manning, Andy Leonard, and Harry Schafer. The image itself measures 14"x18" on its original 16"x20" mount matted and framed. Photographic contrast and registration remain spectacular. The image has a vertical surface crease which runs from top to bottom and has been professionally reinforced and lightly inpainted. The mount has a small support patch on the reverse of the bottom right corner not visible under the matting. The offered image was Deacon White's personal copy as a member of one of the greatest teams of the 19th century. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first example of this historic image in this size format to have been offered at auction, and is without question, the finest 19th century professional baseball photograph that we have handled.
