Lot Number: 876

Description: Rare James "Deacon" White 19th century baseball uniform pants. Pair of period cream color pants worn by Deacon White during his illustrious 19th century professional baseball career. The pants retain their original metal buttons and have a single pocket on the back area. "White" is written in period ink at two different areas inside of the interior waistband. Overall condition is very fine with a some moth holes primarily on the back side of the pant legs (typically seen on wool uniform parts of this era) and some general light wear. Based on a process of elimination through photographic comparison, it is highly likely that these were worn by White as a member of the Boston Red Stockings during the 1870s era. The pants appear to be nearly identical to several examples that have been documented through photographs within the White collection. 19th century professional baseball uniform pieces are among the rarest of all vintage memorabilia categories with only a handful of authentic exemplars having entered the hobby. Includes LOA from Hunt Auctions and letter of provenance from the White family: VG-EX
