Description: Detroit Wolverines baseball team large format cabinet photograph c.1887. Mounted albumen image of the National League Champion Detroit team posed in striking pinstriped uniforms in a studio setting. Players include Thompson, Bennett, White, Hanlon, Brouthers, and Richardson. The image itself measures 14"x20" on its original mount retaining strong original contrast with the exception of an area of toning to the lower left portion of the photograph. The original mount has varying degrees of chipping (not visible under the matting) including a 3" section at the top margin which has been professionally restored. The bottom left corner of the image has a tear which has been professionally reattached. Early image of the Detroit club from 1887 which captured the NL title behind the performance of its outstanding players including Hall of Fame members Brouthers, Thompson, and Hanlon. Includes letter of provenance from the White family: VG
