Lot Number: 811

Description: Significant Lloyd Waner Pittsburgh Pirates road uniform c.1936. Grey flannel Pitt. Pirates road jersey worn by Hall of Famer Lloyd Waner retains its original red on blue "Pirates" lettering on the front and navy blue #10 on the reverse. Spalding tag remains inside the collar along with "L.Waner" chain stitching. Jersey remains in outstanding original condition exhibiting appropriate use with light age toning. The red piping around the back of the neck has some light fraying and there is a very small surface hole under the "A" in Pirates. The tail front has been neatly trimmed to a "V" formation in the period almost definitively by Waner himself. This practice was very common as it often bothered players to have a large amount of material in the front of their shirts. "Little Poison" was one of the most versatile players of the era compiling a lifetime batting average of .316 with over 2,400 hits. Amazingly, he struck out only 173 times during his 18 year career. The offered jersey is the first Lloyd Waner jersey to be offered at auction, with one example residing in the collection of the National Baseball Hall of Fame. One of the finest vintage baseball jerseys that we have offered. Includes LOA from Hunt Auctions, Inc. and letter of provenance from the family: EX
