Description: UPDATED DESCRIPTION: Unique Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Mickey Mantle, Hank Aaron, and Willie Mays auto. baseball. Incredible combination of four Hall of Fame members considered by many to have been the best in baseball history. Ruth has signed the sweet spot in blue fountain pen rating 7 out of 10; Gehrig is located on a side panel and rates 2 out of 10 due to age fading; Mantle on a side panel rates 8 out of 10; Aaron on the mfg. stampings sweet spot rates 9 out of 10; and Mays on the adjoining panel to Ruth rates 8/9 out of 10. The ball itself is a light to moderately toned NL ball which was originally signed in October of 1927 at an exhibition game played in Sioux City, Iowa. Ruth and Gehrig were appearing in one of their famed barnstorming games, for which a young Iowa boy decided to skip school and attend. As the boy was scaling the fence to enter the field, Babe Ruth hit the offered baseball towards the boy. He retrieved the ball and had Ruth and Gehrig sign it after the game. Aaron, Mays, and Mantle were added at a later date. The staggering compilation of accomplishments amassed by these five individuals is nothing short of remarkable. To think of the various key moments in baseball history that have involved one of these players states volumes about the player combination found on the offered baseball. Includes LOA from James Spence Authentication and letter of provenance from the original recipient: Ball: VG-EX, Signatures: NM (Gehrig: GD) and letter of provenance from the original recipient: Ball: VG-EX, Signatures: NM (Gehrig: GD)
