Lot Number: 259

Description: Rare Ad Liska Washington Senators home jersey c.1929. Original cream color flannel shirt with navy blue pinstripes worn by pitcher Ad Liska for the Washington Senators. Size "42" is chain stitched onto the base of the tail and "Liska" is chain stitched inside the collar area alongside the original Spalding mfg. tag. Missing one button. The jersey retains its original silk embroidered "W" patches on either sleeve and has #22 on the back. While period rosters indicate that Liska's uniform number was 18, the number 22 on the reverse is original to the jersey. The number was possibly issued to Liska before the end of the season or for the 1932 season in which he was traded to Philadelphia. Sam Rice wore the number 22 for 1932 and 1933. The shirt exhibits appropriate usage incl. some light age toning. Also included with the jersey are Liska's Washington Senators black and white socks. "Liska" is written in faded black marker at the bottom of one of the socks. One of only a few surviving Senators jerseys from this era to have entered the marketplace. Includes original photograph of Liska wearing the offered jersey (photo matched through "pinstriping"). Includes LOA from Hunt Auctions, Inc. and letter of provenance from the Liska family: EX
