Description: 1954 Ted Williams Boston Red Sox home jersey. Few players in baseball history have garnered the respect that Ted Williams earned during his illustrious 19 year career with the Boston Red Sox. Williams’ statistics are among the most revered of any player in history: a lifetime batting average of .344, over 2,600 career hits, over 1,800 career RBI’s, 521 lifetime home runs, and a remarkable .634 career slugging percentage, which is second only to Babe Ruth. Williams won the American League MVP award in 1946 and 1949 and nearly captured the award on several other occasions as well. The 1941 season in which he batted .406 has become almost mythical as he elected to bat in the final two games collecting six hits in his final eight at bats. Ted also won the AL Triple Crown in both 1942 and 1947. The offered jersey is a rare cream color flannel home shirt from Williams’ 1954 season with the Red Sox. The jersey exhibits fine evident use incl. some surface wear, three small interior patch repairs on the front to three small holes, several areas of light staining and period soiling. The front retains its original “Red Sox” lettering while the back proudly displays the hallowed red #9, which instantly identifies the shirt to any fan of the game. Tim McAuliffe tag remains affixed to the tail front along with “1954 46 2in. 9” chain stitching. As seen in several other documented period Ted Williams jerseys, the tail was shortened in the period at the bottom edge. Overall appearance remains very strong with original patina and excellent usage. Original Ted Williams home uniforms of this caliber are increasingly rare with only a handful of documented exemplars of quality in existence. Includes LOA’s from Hunt Auctions, Inc. and Mears Authentication: EX
