Description: Significant April 9, 2001 PNC Park First Home Run Baseball hit by Sean Casey. Official MLB PNC Park Inaugural baseball as used in the first game played at the new Pittsburgh stadium on April 9, 2001. The ball was hit for a home run in the first inning of the game by Cincinnati Reds player Sean Casey into the right field stands. The home run was not only the first in the history of the stadium, but was also the first hit in the new park, representing the first such occurrence at a new stadium in Major League history. The ball itself exhibits light soiling and a minor surface abrasion from game use. Michael Wilmer, a photographer for the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, caught the baseball at the game. Sean Casey later signed the baseball on the sweet spot. The lot includes numerous documentary pieces incl. notarized letters from Wilmer, original newspapers detailing the game, Sean Casey auto. game used bat (not the bat used to hit the HR), photos of Casey signing the baseball, scorecard from the game, other misc. related supporting items incl. a video tape of the home run, and LOA from James Spence Authentication.
