Lot Number: 906

Description: Joe DiMaggio 1951 New York Yankees contract with related letter from George Weiss. Original contract sent to Joe DiMaggio for the 1951 season in which he was to be paid $100,000 for the second straight year. The contract amount was unprecedented in 1950 and the Yankees were anxious to keep Joe in the lineup for at least one more year. Contract was sent to DiMaggio by Yankees Vice President and HOF'er George Weiss on January 17th and remains unsigned as the early drafts are typically found. The letter from Weiss is typed on New York Yankees stationary and is signed in black ink by Weiss. Each piece has a pair of small mounting holes at the top edge. The 1951 season would prove to be the final year for Joe DiMaggio as the Yankees won the World Championship and Joe stepped aside to make room for the young Mickey Mantle. One of only two original player contracts found within the DiMaggio collection. Includes LOA from James Spence Authentication (Weiss ltr.): EX-MT
