Lot Number: 656

Description: Lot of (2) vintage Bill "Bojangles" Robinson items with relation to Joe DiMaggio c.1940s. Fine pair of historic items relating to one of the greatest tap dancers in entertainment history includes a presentational wristwatch given to Joe DiMaggio by Robinson. The watch has a 14K gold case retaining its original leather band and gold buckle; the dial is marked Cartier. The watch's movement appears to have been made by Le Coultre and is missing the small timer hand at the bottom. Watch backplate is inscribed, "To Joe DiMaggio in recognition of the greatest hitter of all time. From No. 1 Yankee Rooter Bill Robinson". The watch itself exhibits heavy usage wear including dryness to the leather band with separation at one joint to the watch. Based on the evident usage wear, the watch must have been a favorite of Joe DiMaggio's: VG-EX (with note to band wear). The lot also includes a vintage sepia tone 8"x10" photograph in a matte finish signed, "To Little Joe and Big Joe DiMaggio 6/23/47. Just a few taps from Shirley Temple and Bill Robinson with best wishes, B. Robinson". The signature and salutation rate 9 out of 10 with two autographs including the self identification in the salutation. The image itself pictures a famous scene of Robinson and Shirley Temple dancing in the street. Includes LOA from James Spence Authentication: EX-MT
