Lot Number: 1049

Description: Rare "Goodwin Tobacco Base Ball Album: Champions 1888". Very seldom offered complete "round" album, as commonly referred to in the hobby, featuring incredibly beautiful Victorian color lithographic album pages depicting the star baseball players of the day. Total of (10) interior pages each measuring 8" in diameter with the two original ball shaped covers intact. Interior pages include Keefe, Welch, Ward, Anson, Connor, Comiskey, Kelly, Mutrie, and Ewing. Pages for the most part remain very clean with the following condition notes: Page #1 Welch/Ewing/Ward/Keefe has some creasing and a small piece of tape reinforcement on the back to a small edge tear; Page #5 with the tobacco advertisement has two tiny surface abrasions and a small piece of tape reinforcement to the binding hole; Page #8 Comiskey has a 1/16" surface abrasion at his neck. With the exception of the aforementioned condition issues, the interior pages remain exceptionally clean with bold original color and only some light toning to the backs. Additionally, the vast majority of the few condition issues described could be easily restored if so desired. The front and back cover pages have had some minor restoration to repair a tear at the binding hole along with a few areas of inpainting to some scratching. Goodwin tobacco albums of this quality are exceedingly rare and seldom become available to the collecting public: Covers: Range VG/EX-EX (With note to restoration), Interior pages: Range VG/EX-NM
