Description: Significant 1909 World Series Game #6 Final Out Baseball. Official B.Johnson AL baseball with uncommon "1909" dating stamp which was the final ball in play during Game #6 of the 1909 World Series at Detroit. The ball originated from the collection of former Detroit Tiger and Major League umpire George Moriarity. Period ink inscriptions in Moriarity's hand on the ball read as follows, "Last Ball in Play Detroit vs. Pittsburg Sixth Game World Series 1909 Oct. 14th. Wilson tagged out stealing third Ending Game Score Detroit 5 Pittsburg 4". Also notated on a side panel is "Property of Geo. Moriarity" The 1909 Series was billed as a showdown between the two stars of the American and National Leagues; Ty Cobb and Honus Wagner. The contest went back and forth with the Tigers pulling even in game six but eventually ended with a decisive Pittsburgh victory in Game #7. It was the third consecutive series defeat for Cobb's Tigers and it was the only World Championship for Wagner during his playing career. His foresight for certain significant pieces is evident in the quality of materials that he preserved many of which would have otherwise likely been lost or destroyed.
