Lot Number: 188

Description: 1912 Ty Cobb "Baseball Magazine" handwritten letter. Notable three page handwritten letter penned in Cobb's trademark green ink as sent to editor F.C. Lane of the Baseball Magazine. The correspondence was in response to the March 1912 issue of the magazine which was being devoted to Ty Cobb. On page twelve of the issue a printed version of this very letter was published with content regarding Cobb's appreciation for the honor and his regrets that he could not participate more given his dabbling in show business during the off season. In part Cobb writes, "I can only say I have never had such a compliment offered me in my life, and of course, from my side of it I can't see where I deserve such notice." Period correction notes are also visible and were presumably written by Lane. The third page of the letter is boldly signed, "Very Truly Ty Cobb" rating 8/9 out of 10. Includes LOA from James Spence Authentication: EX-MT. The lot also includes the original March 1912 issue of Baseball Magazine featuring the letter. Cover is loose but overall the book remains fairly clean grading VG.
