Description: February 21, 1878 James "Pud" Galvin auto. handwritten letter. Front and back one page hand written letter on plain lined stationary as sent to Sprague in response to a letter Sprague had sent to Galvin. Galvin writes back in very broken English about his general health and that he feels "i think we have a good a nine as in the field and i hope we will make a good record this season...". Signed on the back of the page, "Resp. J.F. Galvin". Signature remains very strong rating 8/9 out of 10. Galvin was one of the premier pitchers during the 19th century winning 360 total games in over 5,900 innings over a 14 year career. Galvin had eleven children and was destitute at the time of his death in 1902 at the age of 45. Friends had to pay for his funeral expenses. Galvin was elected to the Hall of Fame 63 years after his death, making Galvin one of the most sought after of all early HOF'er signatures. Includes LOA from PSA/DNA J.Spence-S.Grad: EX-EX/MT
