Description: Significant Babe Ruth photograph c.1927-28. Original 7 1/4"x9 1/4" image of Ruth in Yankees road uniform (c.1927-28) standing in front of a crowd of African American fans. The image is very representative of Ruth's mass appeal across all barriers in America. In contrast to the social climate in the United States during the 1920-30's and its bearing on other white athletes Ruth enjoyed a large following of African American fans due, in part, to the belief that Ruth himself had an African American relative. Photo has some chips to the top left and right corners with some remnants of period photographer's cropping ink on the front (removable if desired). Back is laid down on thick stock paperboard and has an edge tear which extends into the image. This is the first original example of this classic image that we have seen offered and has been featured on numerous publication covers and the like throughout the years: VG-EX
