Lot Number: 684

Description: Unique and important autographed radio transcript from May 31, 1938 on Lou Gehrig’s 2,000th consecutive game played. Twenty page typed transcript from an interview conducted in New York for the Robert Ripley radio show “Believe it or Not” with Lou Gehrig, Miller Huggins, Milo Boulton, and Robert Ripley. The radio show took place on the date that Lou Gehrig had played in his 2,000th consecutive game which at the time was a number thought to be literally impossible to reach. The script is quite interesting with various questions and answers relating to Gehrig’s feelings about his accomplishment. The title page has been signed by Gehrig, “To Kay With Kindest Personal Regards Lou Gehrig” in bold and very large pencil along with Ripley, Boulton, and R.J. Locke with all signatures rating 9 out of 10. “Kay” was most likely Katherine Schneider who worked as an extra on the show and is listed on the title page. Script also has a few hand written correction a few of which appear to be in Gehrig’s hand although not definitively. Script has light usage wear and a small border chip on title page, fascinating document providing insight into Gehrig’s thoughts when he was setting the bar for endurance that would last for years to come: EX-EX/MT
