Description: Unique 1909 Boston Red Sox photographic advertising sign for Ramly Cigarettes baseball cards. Spectacular period display piece with relation to one of the finest of the early 20th century tobacco card issues. This piece features a large format photograph of the 1909 Boston Red Sox incl. Niles, Lake, Stahl, and a young pitcher named Joe Wood. The image size itself is an enormous 14 1/2”x19 1/2” and retains perfect original clarity and contrast equal to the finest baseball portraiture of the period. The overall mount size measures 22”x28” with a 4 1/4” border that has applied Ramly cigarette packages as well as dual toned period ink lettering incl. team and player names, Ramly product name, and a great ad for the 1909 Ramly baseball card set which reads, “Baseball Fans! Pictures of the Players Free with Ramly Turkish Cigarettes”. The only mentionable condition defect is even wear to the corners with a small chip on top left corner. The Red Sox connection to the Ramly baseball card set is well documented as they were issued in Massachusetts and the set contained more Red Sox cards than any other team. The offered display piece most likely hung behind the counter in a Boston area merchant’s shop during the one year issue of the cards. Fine multi category piece with appeal to folk art, tobacco, photographic, advertising, and baseball fields.
