Description: Rare and Important 1901 Opening game photograph of Bennett Park. Sepia tone cabinet photo taken at the Opening game of the the American League Detroit Tigers who played the Milwaukee Brewers. Bennett Park was one of the great early wooden ballparks which opened in 1896 named after catcher Charlie Bennett who was one of the first players to challenge the reserve clause. The park was located in the Irish "Corktown" section of Detroit and although the stadium was eventually replaced the site remained as the longest running site for professional sports in America with the 1999 Detroit Tigers playing on the exact location in Tiger Stadium. Image is taken from the right field bleachers and the large overflow crowd is clearly visible with players lined up by home plate with umpire. 6"x8" on orig. mount retaining fairly strong clarity and contrast. 1999 will be the last year for play at Tiger Stadium and this exact image was featured on the season ticket holders ticket book after the second game ticket: EX-EX/MT
