Lot Number: 647

Description: Significant Honus Wagner cabinet mounted photograph by Carl Horner c.1903. Offered is one of the iconic images in our hobby picturing a young Honus Wagner in Pittsburgh uniform posed in a formal studio format. This pose is the very same image used to create the infamous 1909-11 T-206 tobacco card among other including the T-204 Ramly series card. Originally part of a rare Carl Horner photographic cabinet display piece the image measures 4"x5 1/2" on its original cabinet mount. Mount has been cut basically to the image but the complete intact photograph is present. Photo exudes trademark Horner quality with exceptional detail and clarity. Has a thin line of toning/staining on left edge not visible in current museum quality matting and frame. To the best of our knowledge this is only the second original Wagner image by Horner of its type to be offered at auction with the other being the example sold in the 1996 Christies East "Baseball Magazine" archives auction. Without question one of the rarest and most desired baseball original photographs of import with relation to scarcity, subject, and condition: EX-MT (With note to mount and edge toning)
