Description: Scarce Elmer Steele Pittsburgh Pirates sweater c.1910-11. Wonderful early professional baseball artifact of a heavy grade grey wool with blue trim retaining its original "P" on breast area. Early Spalding tag remains inside the tail and sweater in general is very clean with a few random "pulls" and small repaired holes. Steele was a pitcher for the Pirates for one and a half seasons and during that time acquired the offered sweater. Includes original 7"x10" cabinet photograph of Steele in 1911 Pirates uniform and a rare real photographic postcard of the Pirates team c.1911 incl. Steele and Honus Wagner. Many of the players in the image are wearing sweaters identical to the offered example. Seldom do professional baseball sweaters of this type come into the marketplace let alone an example with such impeccable provenance.
