Lot Number: 853

Description: Significant 1933 Fenway Park stadium seat contract and related documents. Original contract from the files of the Osborn Engineering Company to renovate Fenway Park in 1933. The contract called for numerous changes including new grandstand and box seating capacity, new concrete reinforced bleachers, new scoreboard, and most significantly the contractors were to remove the area in left field nicknamed "Duffy's Cliff" and construct a large concrete base with wooden railroad ties covered with a painted tin wall that would eventually become known as the Green Monster. The document was issued to Coleman Bros. who were subcontracted by Osborn to do the construction work and is signed by both William Coleman and Red Sox President Thomas Yawkey in fountain pen. Lot also includes several original receipts from "The Peabody School Furniture Co." regarding stadium seating. The new renovations sparked by Yawkey almost were not completed in time for the 1934 season as there was a large fire in January that destroyed the center field bleachers but the work was completed by April and during the 1934 season the Sox drew almost 300,000 more fans into Fenway. Desirable piece with both Red Sox historical and stadia related importance. Includes LOA from PSA/DNA J.Spence-S.Grad: EX
