Description: American Indian moccasins attributed to Jim Thorpe c.1912. Handmade suede moccasins with red, white, and green bead decoration showing heavy usage wear incl. small holes in sole at toe area. Moccasins originated from the collection of Thorpe and were believed to have been worn by him while attending Carlisle Indian Scholl in 1911 and 1912. Thorpe's parents were of Sac and Fox ancestry, his Indian name was Wa-tho-huck meaning "Bright Path". Interesting artifact from the greatest all around athlete in the history of sport. Includes letter of provenance from Joel Platt and Platt's original i.d. label: VG-EX
