Description: Rare "A.M. Draper's Glove Shop" trade sign c.1850-1881. Rectagular pine hanging double sided sign measures 10"x74" with original black and white painted lettering and decor. Sign exhibits typical wear incltaining, border chipping, and is missing 1" on "A.M...." end. Alvah McQueston Draper was born in 1828 and was a member of the Plymouth, NH Draper family who founded the Draper & Maynard Sporting Goods Co. in 1881. Alvah was one of three Draper cousins who were involved in glove manufacturing (All manners of gloves not limited to baseball). Jason Draper was involved in the manufacturing of the gloves while Alvah sold the gloves in the retail shop for which this sign hung on the main street in Plymouth at some point between 1850-1881. Thie 'glove manufacturing' business is what allowed D&M Sporting Goods to advertise a manufacturing history dating to the 1840's. Fascinating piece whith historical relavance to the origins of a very prominent pioneering baseball equipment company: VG
