Description: Significant Roy Campanella 1953 National League Most Valuable Player award. In 1953 Roy Campanella had a career year with a batting average of .312, total of (162) hits, set a Major League record for home runs by a catcher of (41), shattered a Major League record for RBI's by a catcher at (142), and scored (103) runs. These were only his offensive statistics, while not as newsworthy Campanella was regarded as the finest defensive catcher in the game and routinely ranked among the league leaders in numerous defensive categories. Original black painted wooden plaque measures 16" in diameter with original surface. Applied to the front is octagonal sterling silver placard with gold K.Landis bust vignette, Roy Campanella nameplate, and 1953 year plate. Front is stamped "Sterling Dieges & Clust" at lower right, back of plaque retains originla Dieges & Clust metal tag and original brass ringlet for wall mounting. Very clean overall with only a few tiny paint flakes to the edge of plaque and a few minute surface imperfections on the silver facade. Exceptional player achievement award is, along with the other two offered MVP awards, the most significant player MVP awards to become avaialble to the public to date.
