Description: Fullplate ambrotype of the Active Junior Baseball Club c.1857-63. The offered image is the only known full plate baseball related ambrotype and is one of the earliest incontrovertible baseball related images in existence. The Active Junior Club played at the Elysian Fields in Hoboken,NJ from 1857-63 at which time they became a Senior club thus dating the photo. Amazingly a partial period newspaper clipping is attached to the back of the image regarding the Actives championship, both the newspaper and the glue used have been forensically tested with positive results dating the ambrotype, newspaper, and glue used to the date of origin.
