Lot Number: 1019

Description: Rare Negro League auto. baseball c.1931-34. Toned Wm. Harridge red and blue stitched ball (side stamped) with over (30) players names signed and printed on the ball. Based on the names and era of the ball we can attribute most of the players to either the Homestead Grays or the Pittsburgh Crawfords c.1932. The players names on the ball include some of the greatest and rarest in Negro League history incl. Joh Gibson, Bingo De Moss, Nate Harris, Biz Mackey, Fats Jenkins, Oscar Charleston, Ted Radcliffe, Dick Lundy, and Herbert Dixon among others. A number of the signatures are clearly autographed by the players and are consistent with known examples. While printed autographs are much more difficult to authenticate it is also clear that these names are all in different handwriting and in many cases appear to be very resemblent of the players known signature (if in fact there are other exemplars as the rarity of some of these players is such that no copies are known). Ball originated from the family of the original recipient who played with the Minnesota Red Socks and obtained the signatures at a game. Includes letter of provenance from the family and LOA from Kevin Keating. Spectacular rarity: Range GD-EX
